Report Runner Batch

Overview

Report Runner Batch is an automated report distribution tool for Crystal Reports. Report Runner Batch works with all versions of Crystal Reports. It makes it possible to automatically run multiple reports on a regularly scheduled basis, all without user interaction. These reports can be emailed, printed, FTP'd, posted on a server, faxed, and SMS'd. They can be exported in most any format that Crystal Reports supports such as PDF, XLS, and many more.

Scheduling is done with our built-in scheduler (that "talks" with Windows Scheduler). This allows you to do time-based report automation on various days, dates, and times. More advanced event-based report processing is also possible integrating with Event Server (SQL triggers, file triggers, and mail triggers).

For an added bit of automation, Report Runner Batch can do "Bursting" batches as well. Bursting allows for using one single report to output (burst) to file names or email addresses based on the group header (GH1) values ("GH1 Bursting"). For example, you could create an invoice report that bursts invoices to customers daily, for customers who purchased from you on that day. You would just group the invoice on the invoice number, then place the customers email address within that same group (it can even be hidden). The batch will separate each invoice and email it to the customer's email address. It's actually that simple to set up. RRB also does what we refer to as "Parameter Bursting". For example, you can write a simple SQL Select statement and RRB will feed each of the found values to a parameter in the report and run the report once per value.

Report Runner Batch can also automatically archive your Crystal Reports output. Simply set up your archive folder and easily tell Report Runner Batch to archive your report output for any batch jobs. Imagine being able to automatically email invoices and statements to your customers and automatically saving a copy in a customers folder. We've made Crystal Reports archiving easy!

Report Runner Batch pays for itself. Want to figure out how Report Runner Batch will pay for itself? Figure out how much time per day is spent running and distributing reports. For most companies, it's at least one hour, sometimes more. Multiply that by their hourly rate and you can see how much you're spending per month to do report distribution. Two hours per day, 20 days/1 month, let's say $30/hour, and you get $1200 per month in report distribution savings. The Enterprise version would pay for itself in only 3 months!

Pricing Definitions

A "batch" is any GROUP of reports and/or tasks/outputs that you run or schedule to run "together". A batch can be one report or multiple reports.

A "job" is ONE report output/task (although we do allow "archiving" an output as part of a job, so that's technically 2 "outputs" in one job).

A "batch" can be scheduled to run as frequently as you like. For example, the EZ edition allows for ONE batch with up to 5 reports/tasks/outputs. If you wanted to schedule it to run every minute all day long (60 x 24 = 1440 times), you could do that with the EZ edition. Schedules does not affect licensing (schedules are unlimited); only batches affect licensing.

If you create a new batch, click the Add Job button 12 times, that's "12 jobs in 1 batch". If you click the Add Job button 1000 times, that's "1000 jobs in 1 batch".

If you create a new batch, add 1 report, set it to email, add the SAME report and set it to be FTP'd, and add the SAME report again and set it to print, that's "3 jobs in 1 batch".
