Version 2013 Released! - Report Runner Batch and Report Runner Viewer (2013.87)
Posted by Jeff-Net Fan Support 1 on 14 February 2013 08:59 PM

Happy Valentine's Day! We thought we would show YOU some love by releasing our latest update, 2013!

There is very much to talk about. Let's start with the new updates, features, and bug fixes...

---

Batch

  1. Faster start-up time and external batch splash screen now shows report being run
  2. Fixed a bug with external XML Updater utility not always using a correct temp directory
  3. Fixed a bug with certain temp file and log files not being cleaned up properly
  4. New log file messages that show machine name, Windows user, license expiration, and whether Report Runner is running 64-bit or not (must install 64-bit edition)
  5. Added a test for Crystal engine at start-up and an error message if it's not installed properly
  6. Fixed a bug with daterange-based Global Expressions
  7. Removed MSScriptControl engine used for VBScripting in Global Expressions; we now use a proprietary engine to do the scripting that is safer
  8. Removed Windows Shell call that was used to create desktop shortcuts to run batches on demand; we now use a proprietary engine that works on all systems
  9. Updated Licensing Manager; Note: 2013 requires a NEW license key; Your 2012 license will not work in 2013. You need to request your new key before installing 2013
  10. Corrected web links in Help menu
  11. Batch image now indicates if you're running x86 edition (32-bit) or x64 edition (64-bit)
  12. Event Server buttons will not be disabled if that feature is not authorized
  13. Windows Run window can now be called from Tools menu
  14. Windows Search can now be called from Tools, Search feature
  15. Added Sharepoint Online as Destination Type (available in 64-bit edition only due to API to interface is only available via 64-bit Windows)
  16. Added a simple batch-specific INI option to override the output file name for email, FTP, and Sharepoint exports (UseThisOutputFileNameForEverythingExceptFileDestinations)
  17. Added a JNRRB.INI setting to allow for internal parameter separator to be overridden (99% of users will not need to change this)
  18. Added links to online help/videos in numerous screens/forms
  19. Added buttons to open Global Expressions and Constants from within Parameter edit window
  20. Licensing Manager will now track each machine that gets activated (numerous customers requested we be able to tell them what machines licenses are activated on)
  21. Added date and time validation to Scheduler interface
  22. Licensing errors will not show longer, more verbose messages
  23. Added a new technique for determining if reports have records/data or not; the Crystal runtime engine has a bug in it that cause random issues with this
  24. End of Batch Notification Report correctly ignores batch-specific INI settings now
  25. Fixed a random bug with PDF merges crashing on failed reports
  26. Updated image export processing
  27. The full installer now utilizes SP5 of the Crystal runtime engine

Viewer

  1. Fixed a bug with certain temp file and log files not being cleaned up properly
  2. New log file messages that show machine name, Windows user, license expiration, and whether Report Runner is running 64-bit or not (must install 64-bit edition)
  3. Added a test for Crystal engine at start-up and an error message if it's not installed properly
  4. Developer edition can now hide title bar (this effectively makes the report viewer slightly larger)
  5. Added a new technique for determining if reports have records/data or not; the Crystal runtime engine has a bug in it that cause random issues with this
  6. Updated Licensing Manager; Note: 2013 requires a NEW license key; Your 2012 license will not work in 2013. You need to request your new key before installing 2013
  7. Corrected web links in Help menu
  8. Batch image now indicates if you're running x86 edition (32-bit) or x64 edition (64-bit)
  9. Licensing errors will not show longer, more verbose messages
  10. 64-bit edition will now use and load 64-bit DSNs in drop-down lists
  11. Added error correction to export option prior to mailing (previously certain errors would crash the application)
  12. Fixed a bug where auto-refresh was taking place before report had loaded correctly the first time
  13. Developer edition can now "Start" any process via programming the Crystal Reports tool-tip on any object. Simply code the tool-tip (X+2 option) with a string that states "Start WhateverApplicationOrURLYouWantToPutHere". This was added because Crystal Reports validates dynamic URLs, and with this technique, we do not. We will instruct Windows to "start" whatever you want.
  14. Developer edition can now complete disable error message by setting INI message for ErrorMessage=OFF
  15. Licensing Manager will now track each machine that gets activated (numerous customers requested we be able to tell them what machines licenses are activated on)

---

For those that want to upgrade to the latest Crystal runtime engine, here is the link:

---

Again, important, you need to get a new license key before installling 2013. 2013 will NOT work with your 2012 licensing key. There is no cost to upgrading to 2013 or getting a new licensing key. Also, note there will be no additional upgrades to the 2012 edition. 2013.87 *is* the upgrade path from 2012.61.

---

Lastly, we are making the 64-bit edition to any users that request it. There are no additional costs, and your 2013 licensing key will work in either the 32-bit or 64-bit editions. One more note... the 64-bit edition only works with SQL Server and Oracle and other "large" databases. It will not work with Microsoft Access databases, because there are no 64-bit Microsoft Access drivers available for Crystal Reports.

Version 2012.61 Released - Report Runner Batch and Report Runner Viewer
Posted by Jeff-Net Fan Support on 02 December 2012 05:36 PM

Batch

  1. Added a special keyword "jnempty" for login IDs and passwords. Most users will not need to use this.

Viewer

  1. Added two new command line keywords, "jnDSN" and "jnDatabase". These new keywords allow you to override the DSN and database of a report via the command line.
  2. Added a new Developer Edition feature called "Tooltip Commands" (TC). A Tooltip Command will allow you to program special commands to be executed (called) by clicking on a field. Think of it as a hyperlink that executes commands. To use, simply program your tooltip using the [X + 2] button under your Format options for a field. All commands should be proceeded by "Start " (Start and a space). The "Start" keyword avoids the possibility of the Viewer accidentally trying to execute a command. This feature is also useful for any hyperlinks that Crystal deems invalid and will not open. We do not validate the command, we simply tell Windows to run it.

This is not a critical update.

Version 2012.60 Released - Report Runner Batch and Report Runner Viewer
Posted by Jeff-Net Fan Support on 22 November 2012 03:40 PM

Batch

  1. New audio (WAV) output format. Yes, you can actually export the report to an audio format! This is obviously not intended for a long report, but it's great for short messages (and we have to admit, it's quite fun!).
  2. True SMS support (for GREEN and Enterprise editions only). What do we mean by "true"? Previously, you could email a text message to your-cell-number@your-phone-provider.net and receive a text message. These text messages work, but they come from random numbers. With our true SMS support, you will get a text message from our own SMS number (214-960-2348), and it's easier to read. We also have a way for you to purchase your own SMS number, if you prefer. This SMS option is 100% free for GREEN and Enterprise edition users, assuming "normal" SMS usage. Note, you will need to contact us for a special authorization code to activate the SMS feature.
  3. Along with the true SMS support, we've created a simple Crystal Report template that simply has a parameter that allows you to easily set a message (that can be SMS texted or emailed). It's great for start of batch or end of batch messages.
  4. Along with the "message" report, we have created two new Jeff-Net "jn" variables: jnShortBatchFileName and jnStatus. jnShortBatchFileName will be replaced with the current XML file name. jnStatus will be replaced with the current batch status. So, to get an end of batch status SMS text to you, you can use the message report, and set the message to something like "jnShortBatchFileName has finished - Status: jnStatus". Pretty cool, huh?
  5. Fixed a bug when exporting to Twitter
  6. Fixed a bug setting the sheet name, when exporting to XLS
  7. Fixed a bug using Jeff-Net "jn" variables in Sharepoint settings
  8. Fixed a bug using Jeff-Net "jn" variables in advanced PDF settings
  9. Fixed a bug using Jeff-Net "jn" variables in FTP settings
  10. Added additional log messages to display Sharepoint settings
  11. Added some error catching for systems where WMI calls are blocked. Some systems have recently started blocking WMI calls, and it was crashing Report Runner Batch on start-up

Viewer

  1. Fixed a random login issue with sub-reports
  2. Fixed an issue with database connections not getting closed properly
  3. Added some error catching for systems where WMI calls are blocked. Some systems have recently started blocking WMI calls, and it was crashing Report Runner Viewer on start-up

---

This is not a critical update, but it is definitely recommended. Software can be updated here:

http://www.jeff-net.com/download.htm

To download the new "messaging" report, download it here:

http://www.jeff-net.com/software/Batch Message Report.zip

The report should be extracted to your Jeff-Net\Report Runner Batch\AppData\System Reports folder

Version 2012.58 Released - Report Runner Batch and Report Runner Viewer
Posted by Jeff-Net Fan Support on 11 November 2012 11:08 PM

Batch

  1. Modified Global Expressions to be able to use our "jn" variables. Also created some new business day date variables (like jn_NextBusinessDayMMDDYY and jn_PreviousBusinessDayMMDDYY -- and many others)
  2. The DLL MSScriptControl is no longer needed or used, but we still allow VBScripts in Global Expressions.
  3. Added a couple of INI settings to handle reports with an unusually large amount of parameters and/or tables (MaxParms and MaxTables)
  4. Added an email notification process for batches triggered by Report Runner Event Server (EmailAddress setting under group [Event Server Notification] in JNRRB.INI); if you add your email address to this setting, you'll get an email for any Event Server errors (and Report Runner Web Portal)
  5. Fixed a bug with non-ODBC based SQL rules (created in Report Runner Batch, but used by Report Runner Event Server)

Viewer

  1. Fixed a bug where database connections were not getting closed correctly

---

This is a semi-critical update due to the bug fixes and the replacement of the MSScriptControl dependency.
