Important Changes - March 1st, 2006
Our latest update to Report Runner Viewer introduces a couple of major changes that we want to make existing users aware of. Yes, we have some new features, such as more viewer buttons. You'll also be able to start the application multiple times if you choose to. We have new INI options as well, as well as a configuration utility to allow for setting up the Viewer to be the primary application to open RPT files. Our biggest change is in licensing, though.
Prior to this latest update, all previous users were always given free updates to new releases. This was never promised; just something we did. In order to provide the level of support that we want to provide, as well as develop new features of our software, we will begin charging a yearly renewal fee for our Viewer licenses. That means licenses will expire on a yearly basis and will need to be renewed to continue using the Viewer. The renewal of licenses is going to be very inexpensive though, only $2 per user.
As a past customer, you will not be required to move to this new version. We will continue to support your existing version. So, we're not forcing past users to upgrade. We will support what you have. We hope you'll want to move to the new version though. We're giving all existing customers who want to move to the new version, almost a year free of the new version. Your license would expire 03/31/2007.
To use the new version, simply download the latest EXE and extract to the directory where your current Viewer EXE is installed.
Version 10.9.x: Version 10.9 Latest Exe
Version 8.5.x: Version 8.5 Latest Exe
If you are a current, licensed user, when you run the EXE the first time, it will update your licensing (if there is a problem with the auto-update of the license, just let us know). If you are a site license user, you will need to contact us for a new LIC file. This updated site license file will be free, but just to reinterate, the license will expire 03/31/2007.
Lastly, we are also increasing pricing slightly as well a change to individual licensing. With the exception of our PC/Citrix licensing, our licenses have always been user-based. We will now make them machine based. You will still need our PC/Citrix license if you're using it in that environment, but if you have three users on one machine, you now only need one license for that machine, not three.
